Western North Carolina Human Resources Association News Release - BusinessContact: Kathi Petersen, Publicity ChairFor Release: Immediately Date: January 19, 2002HR ASSOCIATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS (ASHEVILLE, NC): The Western North Carolina Human Resources Association has named the recipients of two scholarships which were created to encourage and assist graduate-level studies in human resource management. Holly Waltemyer and Kaye Waugh, both students seeking master’s degrees in human resources from Western Carolina University, each were awarded $500 by the association. Waugh is vice president and human resources manager of Asheville Savings Bank, where she has been employed for 14 years. She is a graduate of UNCA, with a bachelor of science degree in management. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and received SHRM certification in 2001. She is student chapter liaison for WNC HR Association. Waltemyer is a human resources assistant with Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC), where she has been employed for just over a year. She has a B.S. degree in psychology and education from James Madison University, and is a member of the WCU student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. Both women expect to complete their graduate degrees in 2004. As part of their application for scholarships, they each submitted essays explaining their interest in the human resource profession. The Western North Carolina Human Resources Association is a certified chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, and is comprised of human resource and other professionals from various area businesses and industries. The purpose of the association is to develop the personnel function in each participating company by close contact and cooperation with others in the same field, to facilitate the dissemination of information of value to human resource professionals individually and collectively, and to promote positive human relations principles. Monies for the student scholarships were raised by fundraising events conducted by the HR association, as well as by individual contributions.
