MEETING MINUTES - February 13, 2002

Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Association held on Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at the Best Western on Smokey Park Highway. Should you have any questions, comments or corrections,  please contact Bridget Downey, PHR, our Chapter Secretary.

BUSINESS MEETING:  Meeting opened by President Terry Clark, SPHR

Guests and New Members:
Guests and new members were welcomed.

Announcements:
Frank Pomeroy announced that the  Preferred Vendor Program is booked through mid 2002.  The proceeds of this program go to the Scholarship Program.

The Preferred Vendor for this month’s meeting is SofTrain.  They provide training for Microsoft Office and other end user programs, plus technical training to include networking.  Most are 1-day classes, but businesses can purchase blocks of classes at substantial savings.  Follow-up support is provided via e-mail, telephone, and free re-takes of classes.

This month SofTrain will donate $10 to our scholarship fund for each regularly priced class purchased by WNC Human Resources Association members.

Last month’s vendor, Spectrum Office Products, has agreed to donate $200 to the scholarship fund when a member purchases a copier or refers someone who purchases a copier to Spectrum.

WNC Human Resources Association members are reminded to identify themselves to ensure that the scholarship fund receives these donations.

Terry Clark reminded members that Rick Cupp, SPHR, 2001 Chapter President, added several volunteer leadership roles.  Lisa Claxton, our Legislative Representative was nominated for and received a Legislative Leadership Award.  Melissa Bitzer will visit our chapter to present this award.

Chapter Business:

Treasurer’s Report:  Evan Wise, Treasurer, announced that our chapter now has 79 paid and 51 unpaid members.  March 8 will be the cutoff date for dues.  After that date, unpaid memberships will lapse.  The luncheon fee for non-members is $20.

February Program Highlights:

Terry Clark introduced the Committee and Project leaders for each table, and encouraged everyone to help achieve our chapter participation goals by choosing a committee or project to work with.  Members had been given the opportunity to select the topic they wished to learn more about when they made their reservations for the meeting.  After spending time at their selected tables, members were given time to visit additional tables.

The 2002 Committees and Project Task forces continue to welcome new members and volunteers. To ensure that the Chapter has enough participation to successfully sponsor a booth at Bele Chere, anyone wishing to help should contact RICK CUPP, SPHR.

PROGRAMS COMMITTEE: Susan Thompson, PHR The committee arranges for speakers and other events based on member feedback; conducts and reviews a member survey, and contacts community-based organizations to encourage non-profit staff to present brief overviews of their organizations at our meetings.

MEMBER SERVICES COMMITTEE: Deborah Stewart, SPHR:

Members assist in receiving and reviewing new member applications, recommend new members for the Association, contact members who've dropped out and encourage them to rejoin, and recruit local SHRM members who aren't members of our Association.

HR (SEPTEMBER WORKSHOP) TASK FORCE:  Lorraine Poe, SPHR The task force will develop ideas for the seminar in September.  Volunteers can help with the program location, developing the workshop content, and select facilitators for the one-day event.

BELE CHERE TASK FORCE:  RICK CUPP, SPHR:

Members will help identify how to sign up for this opportunity and develop plans to staff the booth for our time commitment of Friday and Saturday.  Explore options for Sunday.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE/FEATURED VENDOR PROGRAM: Frank Pomeroy: Members coordinate the Association's scholarship program and the application process, set up timelines for this year's scholarship, and generate ideas and contacts for the Featured Vendor program.

STUDENT CHAPTER & HRD GRADUATE PROGRAM:
