MEETING MINUTES - MAY 8, 2002

Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Association held on
Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at the Best Western on Smokey Park Highway.  Should you have any questions, comments or corrections,
please contact Bridget Downey, PHR, our Chapter Secretary.

BUSINESS MEETING:
Meeting opened by President Terry Clark, SPHR.  Guests and new members were welcomed.

Announcements:
Terry Clark reported on a recent audit of the WNC Human Resources Association membership list by the national SHRM association.  As of 12-31-01, our chapter had 112 members with 46 being national members as well.  This places us 10% above the required minimum of 30% to retain our affiliation with national SHRM.

Frank Pomeroy introduced the preferred vendor for the month for May, Eb Prueninger, Vice President of Medical Business Resources.  Mr. Prueninger gave a brief PowerPoint presentation on the benefits of document management using state of the art scanning, storage, and retrieval systems.

Lorraine Poe, September HR Workshop Committee Chair offered a brief report on the activities of the group.  Space has been reserved at the Holiday Inn - Airport on Thursday, September 26, 2002, with a tentative time of 8:30-4:30.  Related to the event, Frank Pomeroy announced the availability of 12 vendor spaces at a cost of $200 each.  Proceeds from the vendor fees are targeted for our scholarship fund.  These spaces are currently open for Western North Carolina Human Resources Association members to reserve, but will be opened to outside vendors if not filled from within.  Lorraine also announced the need for three to four sponsors for breaks.

The State SHRM Conference will be held in Greensboro on October 16-17.  More information will be available in the next newsletter, but hotel reservations should be made early.  The Furniture Market will be taking place at the same time.  The June meeting will feature a representative from the State Conference Committee in Winston-Salem.

May Program Presentation:
Susan Thompson, Programs Chairperson, introduced our program for the meeting.  Mr. Pat Donovan of Working Well Employee Assistance Program entertained the group with a practical and informative presentation on stress management.  Working Well can be reached at 828-277-3900.  Mr. Donovan suggested that members search the Internet for information on Rational Emotive Therapy (RET).  One popular site is the Albert Ellis Institute, http://www.rebt.org/
