COMMUNICATING MORE EFFECTIVELY TO BE TOPIC OF PRESENTATION

(Asheville, NC): The regular monthly meeting of the Western North Carolina Human Resources Association will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 12, Best Western-West, 275 Smokey Park Hwy, Asheville. Featured speaker is Ryan Pickens from the Center for Meaningful Work, LLC, who will present ways to communicate more effectively by using the "Ladder of Inference." According to Pickens, one’s mind creates reality and our interpretations of various situations are based on our past experiences.

Pickens’ experience includes coaching people of all ages and people from diverse ethnic backgrounds. His theoretical orientation is eclectic (drawing from many different sources), but is primarily cognitive–that is, changing the way people think by changing how they feel, act and create reality.

Among the credentials Pickens holds are a degree from Vanderbilt University in Human and Organizational Development and a Masters degree from the California Institute of Integral Studies in Human and Organizational Transformation. He has also had training outside the academic arena in conflict resolution, coaching, synergy, consciousness, the power of intention and ritual, stress reduction, meditation, time management, and effective organizational skills.

The program is open to members, students and anyone interested in learning more about human resource- and management-related issues.  Reservations are required by 5pm Friday, June 7 and can be made by contacting Deborah Stewart at Charter Communications, 828/209-2206 or dstewart@chartercom.com.  The cost to attend the lunch meeting is $16.00 for members; $20.00 for nonmembers.

The Western North Carolina Human Resources Association is a certified chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and is comprised of human resource and other professionals from various area businesses and industries. The purpose of the association is to develop the personnel function in each participating company by close contact and cooperation with others in the same field, to facilitate the dissemination of information of value to human resource professionals individually and collectively, and to promote positive human relations principles.
