HR WORKSHOP INCLUDES SESSION ON RECOGNIZING VIOLENT EMPLOYEES

Annual Conference Open To Public - Includes Motivational Session By Author on Entrepreneurialism

(ASHEVILLE, NC): The Western North Carolina Human Resources Association will conduct a day-long workshop for human resource professionals, business managers, and other interested individuals on Thursday, Sept. 26, 8am-4:30pm at Holiday Inn-Asheville Airport, 550 New Airport Road in Arden. Session topics include: 

·         Identifying Behaviors & Intervention – Speaker: Dr. Bill Roskin, retired industrial/organizational psychologist. Session focuses on employee behaviors that signal a problem or may be an indicator for violence, and how to respond in a way that will improve performance. 

·         Situational Leadership – Speaker: Greg Mayo, president, Human Resource Solutions, Inc. and a supervisory development consultant and diversity specialist with Western Carolina Industries, Inc. The Situational Leadership Model identifies styles of leadership according to the development or readiness level of individual employees. 

·         Recruiting & Retaining Good Employees – Speaker: Clark Duncan, recruiting manager, CompuServe/Charlotte 

·         E-Learning – Speaker: Dr. James Kirk, WCU director of M.S. degree program in HR and author of Training Games for the Learning Organization and Training Games for Career Development. 

·         Creating & Administering the Family Medical Leave Act  – Speaker: Bill Hart, membership director for Western Carolina Industries, Inc. and veteran HR management consultant. 

                The workshop concludes with a motivational session presented by John Gardner, co-author of Chicken Soup for the Entrepreneurial Soul. Gardner, a South Carolina attorney for 25 years and former member of the SC General Assembly, is the co-founder of The Eagle Institute, providing education in leadership to business professional.

                 The event is open to the public and includes lunch. Pre-registration is required by contacting Deborah Stewart.  Cost is $89 for members of the association, with an early bird rate of $75 available through Sept. 6.
