MINUTES – March 8, 2006

Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Association held at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Asheville.  Should you have any questions or comments, please contact  Rachel Bemis, PHR, our 2006 Secretary.

Opening:

Kim Moser began with announcements.

Ř      Zip Lawrence has taken on the role of Assistant to the Treasurer.

Ř      Lori Mercer has taken on the role of Government/Legal Affairs Representative.

Ř      Planning for the 2007 State Conference will take place on 3/17 from 3-5 PM, location to be determined.

Ř      The Board had two planning meetings in February to review the CAP Plan.  There will be more information on this in the April newsletter.

Ř      All members will be asked to participate in a member survey.  The survey will be given online.  Karen Ballard will email the group with the process for this.

Ř      There will be an increase in the cost of meals effective April 1st.  The new cost will be $18 for members and $20 for guests.

Ellen Westbrook announced there will be a new ASTD Chapter in Greenville.  They are giving a seminar on Service Culture:  "Creating a Service Culture Through Performance Management"

Donetta Smolinski announced that we have a new PO Box.  The new address is posted on the website.

Lorraine Poe announced that Goodwill is holding a job fair on April the 26th.

Ellen Westbrook then introduced our presenters, Phil Monk, Business Services Director for JobLink and Shelly White, HR Program Coordinator at AB Tech.  They presented on the WorkKeys Program.

WorkKeys profiles, assesses, and classifies jobs.  A Profiler can come to a business to spend time with Subject Matter Experts and the employee in order to get an accurate description of the job.  The job is then rated on several factors and a profile is created.  Each profile costs around $1,000 - $2,500.

Profiling jobs can help identify gaps in businesses and employee skills.  Then the employees can be trained or new employees who more closely meet the qualifications can be hired.

Shelly White then talked about how to use WorkKeys for with clients (students).  The students are issued a “Career Readiness Certificate” that clearly states the skills they have been trained on.

          Meeting adjourned.
