MINUTES – May 10th,  2006

Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Association held at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Asheville.  Should you have any questions or comments, please contact  Rachel Bemis, PHR, our 2006 Secretary.

     Opening:

The May 2006 Meeting was led by Carol Rovello.  Kim Moser was unable to attend the meeting.

Carol initiated introductions and then sought announcements from the committee members.  Laura Misner announced that she is seeking a committee for Workforce Development.

Carol announced the following;

Ø      Results from the member survey are still being compiled and will be released at a later date.

Ø      Volunteers are still needed to help plan the upcoming SHRM conference in Asheville.

Ø      There is a SHRM scholarship offered to children of SHRM members in their first or second years of college.  This is called the “Sons and Daughters Scholarship” and offers up to $2500.

Ø      There is an HR Generalist position open with Carolina HR Partners.  Please visit the website for more information at www.carolinahrpartners.com.

Ø      There were flyers on the table about the Workplace Wellness Program.

Ø      AB Tech is holding a focus group and needs HR Specialists to join a roundtable discussion on May 26th from 12 – 3 PM.  Lunch will be provided.

The Vendor was unable to make it, so Frank Pomeroy introduced Liz Petty with Cooper-Reese in Mill Springs.  Cooper-Reese is a Mental Health healing farm which is an 80 acre farm designed to treat the whole person.  They have greenhouses, offer yoga and exercise, and have an in house chef.  This non-profit was started four years ago by the Cooper Family.

The speakers were Anne McClintock and Sheila Meadows from Mission Hospitals.  The topic was “Generational Differences at Work”.  This is the first time in the history of our country that there are four different generations working side by side in organizations across America.  Information was given about each generation and their individual needs and habits in the workplace.

      Meeting Adjourned.
