MINUTES – May 9, 2007

Minutes of  Monthly Meeting of the Association.   Should you have any questions or comments, please contact  Rachel Bemis, PHR, our 2006 Secretary.
 

Carol Rovello opened the meeting by introducing all the Volunteer Board Members.

Carol also announced that the state conference information is posted on ncshrm.org.   Kim Moser announced that she still needs volunteers, especially someone with a graphic design background.

Brian Jordan announced that if anyone has information for the newsletter to email him at brian@thethirdwayonline.com

Frank Pomeroy introduced the vendor of the month, Telco Community Credit Union at www.telcoccu.com.  Sabre Rock, Marketing Director, reviewed the benefits of membership at Telco.

Belinda Odom then facilitated a five minute question and answer session about diversity and what the business case for diversity is.

Ellen Westbrook announced that it is Workforce Development Month.  She met Edward Gordon at a conference and recommended his book “2010 Meltdown” and “The World is Flat”.

Doug from Early College at AB-Tech discussed the Early College concept.  Students attend for five years and graduate with both a H.S. Diploma and an Associates Degree.  The program is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

He presented 21st century skills the workforce will need, which include digital age literacy, inventive thinking, risk taking, high productivity, and effective communication.

Kathi Peterson announced that Highland Farms is retraining displaced manufacturing workers to provide health care services.

      With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
