The Smoky Mountain
Human Resources Association (SMHRA) is a satellite chapter of the
Western North Carolina Human Resources Association (WNCHRA). Human
Resources Professionals who live and work in Macon, Cherokee, Jackson,
Clay, Graham, and Swain counties at the western tip of North Carolina
found it a challenge to attend monthly meetings in Asheville, so SMHRA
was formed in January 2007. The group consists of approximately 30
core members who meet every other month at 12:00pm at the Ramsey
Center Hospitality Room of Western Carolina University, Cullowhee,
NC.

These lunch meetings
typically last about an hour to an hour and a half. Topics have
included: “Demystifying the FMLA” and “Myths, Methods, and Magic of
Public Speaking”. To date, a Programs Committee, and Membership
Committee have been formed. The group plans to start a SHRM chapter
in 2009.
